It makes me happy to make others happy, I take a long time to adapt to a new environment,I love humour, I'm talkative with talkative people, quiet with quiet people,I hate lies and liars
1. “Now, which one should I put on? Hmm.. I think I’ll go for purple, coz it will match my purple purse, even though its heels are higher than the rest. I can bear the pain”
“Ughh.. These heels are killing me!! Whoever invented high heels? And whoever brought it into fashion?? I will never wear ‘em again!”
2. “OMG! Who is that guy? He’s so cool. Maybe I should go and ask him his number”
“Me go ask his number? No ways.. I’d rather stay back, who needs it anyway?”
3. “I’ll start from tomorrow, I’ll read this tomorrow, there’s still time…”
“Oh man! Still so much to read and exam’s just around the corner. I will never keep things for the last minute again. This is torture! Arrrghh !!”
4. “That’s it! I’m done! I will never ever ever fall for a guy again!”
“All guys ain’t the same. And there ain’t just one fish in the sea. Why should one wrong guy change my opinion for the others?”
5. “I love this song! I love it! It just reached the 100th repeat and I can’t get enough of it”
“Plzzz… Not that song! I am so fed up. Anything but that song will do”
6. “I’m so lean. I should eat more. This is not good. I look like a stick!”
“Oh no.. Why have I become like this? These pants don’t fit anymore! Diet, girl, diet!”
7 “This is so worth it, next episode please, next, next, next…Thank God I’ve downloaded everything..”
“Yawn…! Zzzzzzz.. Damn! I can’t keep my eyes open. Why did I watch all the episodes last night? I should have saved some and slept earlier.. zzzz”
8. "I look like a granny. I think I can manage without these glasses for today.."
"Oh me eyes! I cannot see as clear as before. I need to put on my glasses regularly from now on..."
9. "This game is so addictive! I should reach the next level soon. I'll wait for a while to regain my energy. Meanwhile, i'll invite more friends to join my mafia"
"I should have done something better instead of just wasting my time"
10. "O.k! It's a little tight, but I think I can manage"
"Oooof! It's so warm and these pants seemed to be sticking to my skin!"
*Sometimes, I am my own enemy, and sometimes I am my own friend* :-)
Of course, not that Aerosmith’s song.. But the song did cross my mind when I realised that I WAS and still AM living on the edge, and my life could just end at the blink of an eye.
I had an eventful experience this Wednesday. My work requires collection of samples from different parts of Mizoram. This time, my trip was planned to Champhai. Brother 1, brother 4 and brother 5 were supportive enough to come with me (I have five brothers for those who might be wondering).
Here’s a link of the main places we have to pass through to get to Champhai. (Link)
THE TRIP
We started at 8 am with our faithful Santro car. Before we left, we all gathered in the living room and Mom prayed. She always does. It rained the previous night, and it was drizzling when we left.
Breakfast at Seling. Smoked Pork.. yummmm :-)
Crossed Keifang, and heard that there was a Landslide prone area ahead. We moved on.
Reached Tuivawl at 12 pm, there was a long line of vehicles ahead (Picture 1). Mostly buses and Pickup trucks. Some of them were stranded since 10 am that morning. A landslide had occured the previous day, and a Transport Truck got stuck in the mud. Two JCB's were working to clear the land, and to move the truck out.
At 1:30 pm, part of the land was cleared for vehicles to pass(Picture 2). Truck was still there. Vehicles infront started to move, crossing the landslide area one by one. Just when our turn came, the two JCB's took their many timeth trial to move the Truck out. Finally, it was moved.
Brother 1 drove our way to the danger zone. Guess what? Our Car Got Stuck! Right at the Landslide point! (Picture 3). It wouldn't move front, or back. Brother 4 and 5 got out to push it. I thought I’ll give a hand, but they told me to stay in, so that my feet won't get dirty. I felt loved :-)
But then, people from the other side started shouting that the land was going to slip again, and to move out quick. We all panicked. Somehow we managed to move back, and just then, the land slipped, right in front of us. Seriously scary!!!
Brothers asked me to get out, and to stand as far as possible (Picture 4). Again, I felt loved :-). Two men from behind ran towards us, and gave my brothers a hand, and they pushed the car far back away from the danger zone.
The JCB started to clear the land again (Picture 5), for about an hour until it ran out of diesel!
Bigger vehicles behind us took risk and started to move ahead, and they got stuck one by one. Some lucky ones passed through. That's the first vehicle which got stuck after us (Picture 6).But guys from the other side came to our side, and started to help push. This is exactly what I was talking about. “Helpful Mizo Guys”.
That’s the third or fourth vehicle which got stuck. As these pictures were taken, there were some debris and stones falling every five minutes! But these guys risked their lives to help others, strangers that they don’t even know.
I wanted to go back home, because it was still raining, and the place was still very dangerous. Even if we could go across (with the help of these guys), we were to come back after 2 days, which was still risky. But I did not want to tell my brothers, because this trip was for me. Boy! Was I glad when brother 5 asked me if I wanted to go back home! I quickly nodded.
My (muddy) shoes (Picture 8). Hehe..
I didn’t want the trip to go waste. So after a tea break at Keifang, we asked around and found a place where I could collect few samples.
Yep.. that’s me collecting my samples (Picture 9).
Dinner at Seling. Smoked Pork again.. yummmm.. hehe
Brother 5 drove the car after dinner. At around 8:30 pm, we crossed Tuirial, and guess what? A huge boulder came tumbling down right infront of us! Followed by stones. We panicked a lot! Brother 1 asked brother 5 to back up the car, and for a moment, he forgot how to back it up!
Luckily, a JCB which was on its way home came along. It cleared the road for us again (Picture 10).You know what I was thinking? “God saved us, and has sent us guardian angels in the form of men and JCB! God has answered Mom’s prayers”
Since I brought my camera, I wanted to take every picture to remember this incident. And I so wanted to take the picture of this huge stone. While we drove past it, I tried to take a shot, just as the flash came, all three brothers shouted “Is this the time???” Haha.. I laughed to myself for being so silly.. But later we all laughed talking about me and my camera. Lolzz..
Home sweet home at 9:45 pm
I am glad for this trip
I am glad to realise the love my brothers have for me
I got to see the beautiful night view of Aizawl from Zemabawk (always one of my favourite views)
I got to eat a delicious breakfast and dinner (I’ve always thought that food at Mizo Hotels is tastier then home made ones..hehe)
This is an excerpt from "My Gratitude Journal" which I have written on 9th Sept 2007.
First, how I got the idea of keeping a Gratitude Journal. I once read in a book called 31 Girl by Mary Simpson that one should keep such a journal, to remind ourselves of the blessings that we have received from the Almighty. It is an inspiring book, and I'd like to recommend any girl out there to grab a copy of it. It has helped me a lot in my walk of life.
Since Father's day is coming up, I thought it would be nice if I publish this in my blog. So here it is, with a few necessary modifications and omissions here and there, from the original.
Dad, you are a kind man, gentle in your deeds and hardworking. You've taught me a lot with your silent actions. You believe in 'action speaks louder than words'. Thank you so much for all your kindness and patience. I know I'm not the perfect daughter, and it was difficult for you and mom especially through my teenage days. I was busy with friends and long phone calls, talking about nothing. But you would always understand, and stood by me even if mom or any of my brothers complained. You would just say 'she will learn soon'.. The actual words, which I'll never forget.. " Christmas a la hmang tlem anih hi, a hman tam hunah a la thiam/fel ve mai ang" :-)
When we were small, during mornings, you would turn up the radio to the maximum volume to wake us, and we, lazy as ever, would still cover ourselves up. You would never get angry. But if we had slept too long, you'd take off our sheets, and that was a sign that showed you were pretty mad by then.
I won't ever forget that night, 31st december 2000, New Year's eve. All my friends made plans, and I stayed home. I didn't want to wait for the New Year, and so I went to bed. But you came and woke me up at 12, wished me, and called me out the balcony to watch the fireworks. I'm telling you Dad, that was one of the most beautiful and memorable moment of my life. Just me and you, and the beautiful sky.
Talking about sky, this reminds me about the shooting stars that we both watched late at 2 am, during my 10th standard Selection exam. There were so many shooting stars (i think thiswas the one we saw that night), and I was up because I had to prepare for my exams (believe me, selection exam was "the" toughest!). While I was waiting , you came out, and we watched the sky. You told me to make a wish. I guess I was so selfish, I just wished that I would do well in my exams. I should have wished for you to have good health. But thank God, till today you are well. In so many ways, I'm like you dad.. I don't talk much to people that I'm not close to. And I don't know how to strike a conversation, and would rather keep quiet like you. But I can talk all nonsense, non-stop to people I'm close to, again just like you :-)
Remember when I was in 12th standard, I went to attend a camp program conducted by our church, which was against the school rule. And as expected, the Principal asked us to bring our parents. I won't ever forget that day, how the Principal scolded you, he used all sorts of hurting words, but you just sat there and bore the pain, all for me. Because if you had answered him back, I would have been expelled from school. I felt sad but proud of you at the same time.
Dad, I'm proud of you in so many ways. Thank you for keeping such a big family together till today. Thank you for loving mom. Thank you for your patience. I love you so much and I want to make you proud. I WILL make you proud.
Thank you Lord, for giving me a dad who cares, who loves me unconditionally, and please take his soul to heaven when his time comes, for he deserves the best.
Love you Dad, always.
My Dad loves to work, he reared pigs, chickens, ducks, even turkeys back in the days, apart from his office work; he knows carpentry; he can fix just about anything; he loves to cook; he loves to garden; he grew all kinds of vegetables, from tomatoes to squashes to carrots. But now, he cannot work as much since he has been suffering from sciatica for years, and cannot make much use of his legs lately. Even though he's a man of few words, i would laugh to tears at his jokes. For a man in his 70's, he still looks young, compared to his friends. BTW, I'm planning to let him read the original version of this on Sunday i.e Father's Day (21st June 2009). Hope he'll like it. My fingers are crossed :-)
They don't mock-tease girls (including the non-mizo's residing in Mizoram)
They know music
They drive well ( maybe the advantage of growing up in a hilly region)
They have the courtesy to offer their seat to the fairer sex or to elders in buses and public places.. I need to say more about this. During my 3 years of stay in Chennai, i used to take buses and trains many times. And never had i been offered a seat, nor had i seen a guy getting up to offer his seat to a lady or to an elder. Instead the men sit on the reserved ladies seat, and would never get up until the bus conductor force them to. Such is the condition out there, whereas here at home, it's just the opposite, and it makes me glad.
They don't stare at you if you wear sleeveless
In Mizoram, a girl need not safeguard her body from being disturbed by uninvited hands even in the most crowded places
They can take jokes
They are helpful. One can always feel safe within Mizoram, even to have a car break-down coz a mizo guy is always willing to offer a helping hand
They give importance to cleanliness ( even to their feet..hehe)
They smell gooooood :-)
Judgement is purely based on the guy's i've known and seen (from the richest to the poorest), in and outside Mizoram.
Yes, there will always be a few exceptions
Hail ye Mizo Guys!
You make us proud, and you make ME proud to be a Mizo :-)
I came home after a stressful day last week, when my three nieces all came and ran towards me, and gave me a tight group hug (our hug – which ill explain later). All stress seemed to vanish. That was when I thought “I have to write something about these little darlings”. I am blessed with 5 brothers, and i was the cry baby of the family, the pampered and not spoilt (mind it) little brat :-). I always dreamt of having a real sister and would innocently ask my mom to have another baby soon. But from the past 6 years, three special princesses happened in my life. My 3 little nieces Felfeli, Dindini and Puipuii. And I want to dedicate this post to them. They are my beautiful angels.
Felfeli (age 6): My first niece, daughter of my second brother. Looking at her today, she reminds me so much of me! She’s my mom’s baby, and has been sleeping with my parents since she was 2. She gets shy for no reason, and laughs as much as me. She finds almost everything funny. She’s a good story teller, and could make up stories, narrate it without any sign of it being made up. Lately, she’s been speaking to herself in English a lot, we think she’s imitating her teacher at school. Dad used to read her stories before she sleeps (again, just like me :-)). She can hum to almost all the songs I play. She’s very responsible, and takes care of her two lil sisters pretty well. Although she fights with dindini at times, well, ain’t that one of the best part of childhood? She wants to be a nurse or doctor or teacher when she grows up (I always wanted to be a doctor or teacher). But the last time I asked her, she said she wants to be a millionaire! She prays a lot, and unlike most other kids, she believes in her prayers. I know she’s going to become someone great someday.
Dindini (age 4): She’s feli’s younger sister. The unconquerable, Miss Independent and The Entertainer! This one.. you’ll fall in love with her. Tell her to dance, tell her to sing, tell her to do anything.. she’ll do it, but on one condition – DON’T LAUGH. She’s an early bird, and very enthusiastic. She can dance really well, she can imitate almost all the dances she sees on T.V. And she has her own set of vocabularies. I will jot down whatever I can remember here, coz I think its too precious to be forgotten. 1. When she finishes using the loo, and wants someone to go wash for her, she’ll shout “anu/api/anite/apa KA EK KA KHAM TOHHH!” 2. Khuavangchhinchhiah – vangkhuachhinchhiah 3. kutchuk – chukchu (a u in a hnungah chukchu a nei) 4. lassi – sihal (anu sihal ka in chak ee) 5. picnic – toothpick ( anite keini chu kan in toothpick don bik ah) 6. sangha ruh – a perek (a perek a om!) 7. phurthak – meithak (anu meithak ka kai ania- this happened today actually - 31st May 2009) 8. Once I scolded her for touching my makeup stuffs, she stared at me for a moment and said “anite-i chu I thinthat lai kha ka ngai e” then she walked off..lol. (must be opposite of thinchhia) 9. Her fav singer is “Mimi Varte”.. we don’t know which one she means, Mimi Renthlei or Mami Varte. Today I asked her what she wants to become when she grows up, first she smiled and said ‘Mimi-i’. Then Feli explained the meaning to her, then she said ‘e e e.. I want to become a nurse’. But I think she’s just repeating what her sister said. This one will be resourceful and dependable in everything she does.
Puipuii (age 1 and half): This little one.. the most adorable baby! Dad calls her the 'JOKER' of the family. My third brother’s daughter. The sweet, naughty and playful one. She’s bold and bald (she takes up my brothers). Her mom tries her best to dress her as girly as possible, with pink dress and pink shoes. But there’s always one, foolish enough to ask “why are you dressing your son as a girl”? haha.. and her mom would be furious. She can dance to all sounds of beat. You should hear the way she says things, soooo cute! Love you – laaaa huuuu, gud nite – nu niiiite, ih mo – nih mooo, ngai che – nai teee If she hears a fart sound, she’ll point at you and say ‘BOOM’..lol. She calls me “lai meme” (lalmimi) and calls her mom “lai baybe” (lal baby).. I taught her *evil grin* . And I am teaching her now how to say ‘alo nih tak chu’, but she cant get the words right yet. I cant wait for her to learn! I take her to church on Sundays, and she would fall asleep in my arms (the part I like the most). She’s the boldest amongst the three! And she can take care of herself. She falls sick lot of times and has been admitted to the hospital more than 5 times since she was born. I pray that she would soon come out of this situation.
OUR HUG: We name it “HUG HUG HUG”. For this, we have to stand atleast 5 feet away from each other. And we have to run to each other (like in Hindi movies), and they (the kids) should jump up to me, and we should give each other 4-5 times pat on the back, concluded with a kiss. Puipuii’s also learning this.
Its so much fun to be with them, and watch them play, though they get a little irritating at times, but they are kids. And I often regret scolding them sometimes. They brought such joy to our lives, and I love them so much! Thank You Lord, for my beautiful angels.
Written by : Robert Charles Guidry (Bobby Charles) in 1977
Made famous by : Rita Coolidge
This was one of the first song that I ever liked, even before knowing what it meant. My cousin’s used to sing it so many times that the tune’s embedded in my brain! And after I came to know that it was Rita Coolidge who sang this, seems she also sang ‘words’, ‘I don’t want to talk about it’, 'we've got tonight', 'crazy love', which are also my all time fav songs. I've actually just downloaded these (rita's version).. lurve 'em!!
Lyrics of The jealous kind Dont be angry, if i seem rude Each time we meet Someone that you once knew That you say used to be so close to you It's just that I'm so afraid Someone might steal you away I'd lose my mind I can't help myself, the way I feel sometimes I'm a jealous kind
It was alright when I first met you I didn't mind But now things have changed I'm just not the same and now I find I want you all to myself I don't want to share you with nobody else You must forgive me, for the way I act sometimes I'm a jealous kind
If you only knew how much it hurts to hear you say How you can't forget That before we met, those were the good old days Why must you hurt me so I can't take it no more And I'm really tryin' And I can't help myself, the way I act sometimes I'm a jealous kind
I found this cover in youtube, I totally like the way he sings it, a little John Mayer but country..
Have you ever been in love?
Yes?
No?
Not sure?
Don’t know?
Think about this song, I’m sure in every relationship we all feel this way. You start a relationship, you become close, you share your feelings, and then start to talk about your past relationships. Yeah, in the beginning it seems quite alright, like everything’s cool. And then this stupid feeling called “J” comes along, which makes most of us go weak on the knees! Do you ever get that “I wanna know 'bout your past, but I don’t wanna know” feeling? Aarrghh.. I hate this feeling! And this is why I sometimes think its better not to know everything, leave it behind, stay true to each other and live the moment. Sometimes you're so sure that you're in love, but then again you doubt yourself. Coz the good Book tells us that “Love is not jealous”.
Shania has always been my favourite artist. Right from “you’re still the one” to “from this moment on” to “when” to “man! I feel like a woman” to ‘ka ching” to this:).
This brought tears to my eyes coz the lyrics synched with the video so perfectly! And seeing the couple looking so happy together..sigh! What more could you ask for than to grow old with the love of your life….?
7. Lover's moon - Glenn Frey
Oh well, this was a long time ago. It was a long distance relationship. So.. i cried, so..Its obvious..:). It didn’t work out anyways. He is now happily married with an adorable son, and I am now happily single with three beautiful neices.I know what you’re thinking! I accept both cash and credit cards. No coins please! :)
Here’s the lyrics.
There's lover's moon tonight
As I look back over my shoulder
All the stars are shining bright
Just like the nights when I used to hold her
She's out there somewhere under the lover's moon
Lover's moon, won't you shine on me?
I'm dancing with a memory
I wish I may, I wish I might
Have one last chance to hold her tight
Waiting, I know she's waiting
I know she waits for me under the lover's moon.
There's a lover's moon tonight
Shining down on half of this world
So many souls are in it's light
But for me there is just one girl
And she's waiting, I know she's waiting
I know she waits for me under the lover's moon
8. Jesus take the wheel – Carrie Underwood
The old couple in this video..they are so cute together! It gives me goose-bumps when the wrinkled hand of the granny touched the wrinkled hand of the grandpa, and when he kissed her? sniff sniff sniff..:)
And the lyrics.. so inspiring!
9. Amneris Letter – Shania Twain
Have you ever felt that you’re not perfect enough no matter how hard you try? Ever felt that you should have said something, but you’re pride pulls you back from saying it? Ever said something that you regret? This song has got it all. Short and sweet, but very meaningful. One of my friend sent this song to me 2 years back, coz he liked it so much. And I love it till today! The music is by Elton John, Lyrics by Tim Rice.
here's the lyrics:
I'm sorry for everything I've said
And for anything I forgot to say too
When things get so complicated
I stumble, at best, muddle through
I wish that our lives could be simple
I don't want the world, only you
I wish I could tell you this face to face
But there's never the time, never the place
So this letter will have to do I love you
10. Someone’s watching over me – Hillary Duff
An OST of the movie “Raise Your Voice”. I still remember watching this. It was a hot “Summer of 07” in Chennai. It seemed to be hotter when some of our friends/friend having long hair joined us all the way from bangalore ;-) I had to stay back coz of my studies, and most of my friends went home for the holiday.
Burma bazaar was one the places we visited the most, coz we were so jobless. It’s a place where they sell pirated stuffs. And oh, I googled burma bazaar and this is what I found.
“Chennai is one of the important trade centers of south India and is a good place to shop for a large variety of things. One of the famous shopping places is Burma Bazaar, where one can find all sorts of imported goods ranging from electronic gadgets to readymade and perfumes. Trading in almost all kinds of goods from plastic goods to textiles and stationery, and from ready-made garments to household items can be had here for reasonable prices. There are many new shopping complexes that offer a large range of shopping to be done under a single roof, have come all over the Burma Bazaar. This is shoppers' paradise”.
A shopper’s paradise indeed!:-)
Anyways, getting back to my story… I have this one friend..uhmm.. “King of Burma Bazaar” (he’s so gonna kill me when he reads this..hahaha). He’s good in bargaining, he buys and sells things, and he makes friends with the salesmen :). It’s his talent. LOL. Well we went and bought lots of dvd’s to watch. And this one came along with a collection of movies of Hillary duff. And we watched it with a few of our other friends, I cried.. a lot. Thank God the light was switched off. hehe.. and I love this song since then. An assurance that some one’s watching over me from up above..
